Philanthropy vs. Politics

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been getting several letters it seems each week asking me for donations to political candidates. With elections a little more than two months away, I can understand the urgency.
When it comes to the race for the presidency, I already know who I’m going to vote for – I also know I’m going to have hold my nose when I do it. And frankly, I could be talking about either one of the two main nominees in my opinion.
But while I’m going to vote because I consider it my privilege and civic duty to do so – I haven’t been able to convince myself to write a check to one of these presidential candidates. If you have this quandary too, then do what I did. Write a check instead to your favorite nonprofit – do something you know you can feel good about!
So when you’re dismayed by all the name-calling and eye-gouging you seem to see every evening on the national news – just smile and make a donation of your money or your time or both to a nonprofit you know is helping make a positive difference in people’s lives in your community.
